An Intensive Six Weeks Course
TG. 100 ( 2 weeks)
Introduction to Tour guide
Course Description
This is an introductory course that will be based on the principles and practice of tour guide. This course will focus mainly on preparing the students to pass the Washington DC tour guide license test. This is going to be hands-on experience. Students will also be taught some the historical facts about Washington DC.
TG. 101. Tour Guide Principles ( 2 weeks)
Course Description
This course will explore the concept and skills of being a tour guide in Washington DC. The skills of being the driver and the tour guide at the same time will be taught to students. There will also be groups tutoring sessions, Use of the tourism vans and buses, and the road infrastructure.
TG 102. Tour Guide Communication ( 2 weeks)
Course Description
This course will acquaint the students on the communicative skills needed to succeed as a tour guide in Washington DC. The communicative skills will be focused mainly on the multilingual and multi cultural nature of the city of Washington. Other important elements related to tourism that will be taught are the ethics of being a tour guide, company rules and regulations, rules of the site tour, time management skills and presentation techniques.

HM. 100. Introduction to Hotel Management
Course Description
This course intends to introduce the students to the fundamental purpose and role of hotel management as an important aspect of business. Students will be able to learn the basic rationale for hotel management and the role good and efficient management can play to promote the image of a hotel in the short and long run.
HM. 101. History of Hotel Management
Course Description
This course will acquaint the students on the historical perspective of hotel management. Students will learn the successes and failures within a time period, the contributions of the hotel industry in the promotion of tourism, conferences and leisure.
HM. 102. Lodging Management
Course Description
This course will inculcate the basic foundations and importance of people management especially as it relates to lodging. Students will learn the importance of cultural diversity as it affects hotel lodging. Another issue that this course will inculcate into the minds of the students is the role of traditions and customs especially as it relates to gender dynamics in lodging guests in the hotels.
HM. 103. Hospitality Management
Course Description
The purpose of this course is to acquaint the students on the behavioral dynamics with respect to employee and customer relation in the hotel. Students will learn the ethical principles and law associated with being hospitable to both the clientele and the personnel of the hotel.
SECOND TWO MONTHS
HM. 201. Food Management
Course Description
This course will introduce the students to the various menu that can be served in the hotel. It will acquaint the students on the acceptable drinks and food management. Since hotel guests are mostly multicultural, it is imperative that students taking this course understand the various cultural and traditional dishes that can be presented and the risk involve when managing food services in the hotel.
HM. 202. Hospitality and Employment Law
Course Description
This course will avail the students on the employee relations in the hotel in relation to employment law. Students will learn the techniques of dealing with employment labor issues and how the law can be applied. This course will give the opportunity for the students to get some internship with some selected law firms in the city that deal with hotel employee related issues.
HM. 203. Event and Hotel Management
Course Description
This course will introduce various techniques and skills necessary to the students to organize a professional event. Students will be taught how to prepare, plan, organize and execute wedding, business, ballroom and other event parties in a manner satisfactory both to the client and the hotel management.
Last Two Months
HM. 301. Internship
Course Description
Students will have the opportunity to intern with professional hotels in Washington DC and other hotels in the larger metro area including Virginia and Maryland.
HM. 302. Practicum
Students will be able to work with professional groups in the Washington Metropolitan area that specializes in event managements like Graduation parties, Wedding anniversaries, Musical concerts etc.
HM. 303. Internship II
Based on the student initial evaluation in Practicum I, this course will help to further strengthen the skills of the students to work efficiently in any given hotel.

Description
This course will introduce the fundamental basics of tourism. Focus will be placed on the nature and function of tourism. Students will be able to learn the history and place of tourism in the life of mankind and how it has shaped the life of people in the last centuries.
TRS 102- Tourism and Management
Course Description
This course will inculcate the different types of management skills needed in the
Tourism industry. Emphasis will be laid on the leadership skills and how this
skills can be acquired in order to satisfy the needs of the tourists. Another
emphasis will be laid on tourism planning and development.
TRS- 103 Tourism and Marketing
Course Description
This course will introduce the role of Marketing in Tourism. The basic principle in business marketing and how it can be applied to tourism will be the focus of this course. Students will also learn public relation and advertising techniques in tourism.

TRS 104. Environmental Tourism
Course Description
This course will be based on the importance of the environment and how it can affect the Tourism business. Students will be able to learn how the geography of the environment is important for a tourism business to be successful. Some environmental factors like road network, transportation facilities, maintenance, and gentrification and how it can affect the tourism business.
TRS 105. International Tourism
Course Description
This course will acquaint the students on the role and importance of International tourism in the era of globalization. Emphasis will be placed mostly on the requisite knowledge needed for the understanding of different nations and their approach to tourism. Students will learn the different policies and ethics as it relates to international tourism.
TRS 106. Hospitality Management
Course Description
This course will introduce the students to the fundamental issues on hospitality and how it can be applied to tourism and tourists. They will acquaint themselves on the basic notion of customer care, reception, social relations, humility and cultural ethics in the context of multi-culturalism in Tourism.
Second Year ( First Semester)
TRS 201. Peace through Tourism
Course Description
This course will emphasize the need for world peace through tourism. Students will learn how meaningful dialogue with tourists can lead to world peace. The fundamental issue with tourism is co-culture and students will be able to learn how co-cultures could achieve global peace through tourism. Interpersonal and group communication will also constitute a vital element in teaching peace through tourism.
TRS. 202. Human Resource Management
Course Description
This course will deal specifically with the knowledge and skill necessary for a successful resource manager. The challenges of new technology in the era of globalization must be grappled with by the human resource manager. The knowledge of both the internal and external environment as it pertains to tourism will constitute one of the core concentrations of this course. An effective HR is one with requisite technical know-how that is able to sustain the growth and progress of an organization.

Course Description
This course will acquaint the students on the importance and use of social science research methodology to understand tourism. Research is a vital tool necessary for the background, present and future implications of any given discipline. Students will learn the qualitative and quantitative research skills as can be applied in tourism. The focus will be mostly on applied research technique since the tourism business is in need of innovations for the overall satisfaction of both the promoters and consumers.

Course Description
This course will focus on the importance of hospitality and how it can help improve the tourism business. Issues of hospitality that the students will learn include time management, and other services like interpersonal communication tools between clients and tourists agents.
TMT. 116. Tourism and Ethics
Course Description
Students in this course will be able to learn the basic role of moral ethics and tourism. Ethical responsibilities are required so that students can be able to manage skills and responsibilities effectively. Some of the ethical issues to be taught in this course include: communication ethics, psychological and moral ethics, business ethics, leadership and management ethics. Another issue related to ethics that this course will address is that of research ethics. Tourism is a course that deals with interpersonal relations. Knowledge of ethical principles as it applies to tourism will become an integral part of this course.

Course Description
This course introduces students to the fundamental issue of recreation that is central to tourism. Since recreation and leisure are the driving force to the smooth functioning of tourism, students in this course will learn what recreation entails and how it can help tourists get the fullest from tourism. Some of the element of recreation like entertainment, relaxation, peace of mind, and climate will constitute the basic tools of this course. Students will also learn why recreation and tourism are interchangeable. Other issues that will be discussed in this course are parks, natural and man-made attractions.

Course Description
This course will acquaint the students with the requisite knowledge on the means of transportation to achieve a successful tourism business. Since the primary aim of tourism is transporting tourists from place to place, means of transportation becomes primordial. The knowledge on how different means of transportation provide unique services to tourism business will be taught in this course. Safety tips and security techniques will also constitute important element that students in this course will study.
TMT. 212. Sustainable Tourism
Course Description
This course will enable the students to learn valuable insights into sustainability as it pertains to tourism. Issues like conservation and biodiversity as it relates to the tourism business will constitute the core of this course. Students will have the opportunity to acquire valuable knowledge in monitoring and evaluating techniques of tourism management for the purpose of continuity. Since tourism goes beyond regional confines, it will be very essential for students enrolled in this course to be able to distinguish between regional and state destinations as far as tourism is concern. Most of the issues and awareness about the sustainability of the tourism business both for the short and the long term will be covered in this course.

Course Description
This course will acquaint the students on the importance of cross-cultural issues encountered in the tourism industry. Since tourism cannot effectively work without the participation of visitors from different cultural background, it is necessary that students be grounded in intercultural matters. The students will have to learn about different communication styles, food, taste, fashion, mannerisms, attitudes, customs and traditions of those coming from entirely different cultural backgrounds. This is important so that every tourist is satisfied to visit and learn about the country where the tour is being conducted.

Course Description
This course intends to inculcate the discipline of policy development in tourism. Students will be able to learn about the fundamental issues of economic, social and political forces that can shape the policy of the tourism industry. Policy issues are issues that relate to research and execution. Students in this course will learn how historical factors and governmental influences have helped to improve the tourism industry in the past and what policies are being fashioned now for the tourism industry in the future.
TMT. 216. Applied research in tourism
Course Description
This course will enable the students to carry out quantitative, qualitative and mixed methodologies on issues facing the tourism industry. Since applied research is conducted to resolve pressing issues, it will be incumbent on the students to identify past and current issues affecting the tourism industry that can be worth researching using archival data as well as human participants.
TMT. 217. Sea and Air Tourism
Course Description
This course is design to fit the needs of the 21st and 22nd century tourism. Students will acquaint themselves with necessary tools needed to successfully carry out tourism in the sea and air. The knowledge about cruise ship or boat and how they are used to carryout successful tourism in the sea will be of paramount importance to students of this course. Since the space is gearing up for future tourism by humans it is necessary that students be prepared now on how to deal with some of the innovative styles with such unique form of tourism.

Course Description
Students registered for this course will have to apply to selected tourism industries in the country or outside the country as the case maybe for internship training. This internship is credit-based. The target industry will have to send a report on the student’s performance to the university.
TMT. 302. Practicum
Course Description
Students registered for this course will do a practicum with units within the university dealing mainly with touristic matters.
TMT. 303. Tourism and Law1
Course Description
Students taking this course would be required to learn the usefulness of constitutional law and how it is applicable to the tourism industry. Students would be required to use law library resources and databases on law matters related to the successful operation of the tourism industry.
Third Year ( Second Semester)
TMT. 304. Tourism Law II
Course Description
Prerequisite ( Tourism Law I). This course is the advanced version of Tourism Law I. Students will be required to conduct mock trials on cases that are related to tourism infractions. They will be trained on using law court expertise to resolve tourism issues.
TMT. 305. Tourism Assessment
Course Description
Students will be able to learn the functions, techniques and nature of assessments in relation to tourism. Assessment techniques on the strengths and weaknesses of tourism business will be taught to students.
TMT. 306. Tourism Investment
Course Description
This course will inculcate on the students the purpose and role of investment for successful tourism. Investment with capital and knowledge are the primary means of ensuring the future of the tourism business. Students will learn the value and techniques of short and long term investment and the risk factors.
Fourth Year ( First Semester)
TMT.401. Destination Management
Course Description
This course explores the socio-economic and political implications of destination management in relation to tourism. Tourists have the nature of the destination before embarking on the trip. It becomes incumbent then to train students to seek ways to effectively manage destinations with all the structure in place so as to make tourists comfortable.
TMT. 402. International Law and Tourism
Course Description
This course will acquaint the students on the importance of international law and how it can affect international tourism. Since tourism involves interacting with people and nation states, the role of international law is important for a successful completion of a degree in tourism. Students in this course will be able to learn the nature and role that laws within and without nation states can affect tourism.
TMT. 403. Internship in International Tourism
Course Description
Students in this course will be able to have experience and expertise in international tourism by working with international tourism company of their choosing. The credit for the course will be communicated to the University by the agency that the student worked with.

Students in this course are required to undertake practicum with Zohery Tours company or any other company of their choice.

This is a preliminary introductory course to the fundamentals of Thesis research. The structure of this course will constitute chapters 1-3. (Introduction, Literature Review and Methodology).
